My name is Janeya Tunke and I am a happily married mother of five wonderful children who range in age from 8 to 23. I have lived in Grande Prairie since 1990 and had all of my babies at the QEII. Babies and birth have always fascinated me and when I heard a doula trainer was coming to town I was intrigued. On the very first day of my first doula training 7 years ago, I realized that I finally knew what I “wanted to be when I grew up”. Supporting women and families through pregnancy labour and childbirth has become an incredibly fulfilling part of my life.
Hiring a doula does not guarantee you a short labour, or an easy labour or even a natural labour, but what it does guarantee you is that you will have someone there who is on your side and who is with you from the start to the end. I am there for you and only you. If what you desire is a natural, drug free birth I will do my very best to help you achieve that. However if you want an epidural in the parking lot, I will try and get that for you too. My goal is to help you have the best birth possible, however that looks, my own beliefs and agenda should never factor in to the equation.
I believe knowledge is a powerful tool. It is so important to be informed during your pregnancy and labour and how understand each intervention that occurs may ultimately affect your labour, your body and of course, your baby.
I strive to improve my skills and knowledge with courses and classes and reading. My most recent pursuits have been Aromatherapy for Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum through Birth Arts International and a Spinning Babies workshop, which helps with optimal fetal positioning or helping to ensure baby is the best position possible for an easier, quicker labour.
Birth is beautiful and dynamic but also an intimate and emotional time and I never take lightly the honor of being invited to be a part of someone’s birthing experience.
